The judges gave respect to the Nazis by letting them speak or defend themselves. This diplomacy led to some lack of necessary punishment. For example, Franz von Papen served as the chancellor of Germany in 1932, and then as the vice-chancellor under Adolf Hitler from 1933 to 1934. He participated in helping the Nazis take power all around Europe. Franz von Papen was not convicted and went back to an ordinary way of living. This is a negative case caused by the diplomacy given to the Nazis in the Nuremberg Trials.
