Rights in Rome

The Roman citizens had many rights that had a big impact on rome, and a signifagant mark on the world.

For example, citizens had the right to vote in assemblies and for public leaders. This had an impact by making the people representative, and it helped the people because the government was then for the people. This will make the government serve the people. Also, this changed over time. The people used to be able to vote based on their wealth, and later, in ancient times, it would be adult male citizens.

The ancient Romans also followed a set of laws called the 12 Tables, which they lived by. This is similar to our constitution because it was the law of the land but for Rome. The Roman citizens also had legal rights, such as the right to trial and appeal. This greatly affected the people, which allowed everyone to have a fair trial, so everyone was always equal
protected under the law if they got in trouble.

Additionally, the people had property rights, which had a great effect on the government or any superpower because they could not anymore take their property unless of due process.

Furthermore, the citizens had the right to hold public office. The effect of people being able to run for office is that it wasn't some special group that could do this, so the people once again had control of the Roman government.

Responsibilities in Rome

The Roman citizens had many responsibilities to do that both helped the people and the government. One of the multiple responsibilities was military service for male citizens, and the utmost effect of this was when the Roman government had a deficiency of soldiers during war or shortage.

Also, one of the various responsibilities was the responsibility to vote to make sure the democracy was flourishing and to make sure the citizens were able to legitimize the government. This changed over time by the citizens voting directly on laws at first, but in the end, they would elect officials to represent them in this democracy. The criteria for voting was you had to be a male, and it varied based on social class.

Furthermore, another responsibility is to pay taxes the significance of this is that it helped the government to pay for the military and other necessities that the government needs. Taxes changed over time in various complex ways.

Another responsibility was to do jury duty, which was for the people of Rome, and this was introduced because of the Greeks who had the idea in the first place. Moreover, this responsibility had a monstrous effect on the government by the judging in court not being made by one person like it is in some countries, but so it was by a non-biased person and added equality.
