Jack Mullin: Man of Sound

Future Impact

So, how will Jack's invention change the future? Being one of the pioneers of sound manipulation, Jack unwillingly set up a world of deception and trickery. Even though he stated that he did not want his work to be used for misdeeds, his sharp edits made it almost impossible to tell if something was recorded or live. He pioneered the usage of cutting, splicing, and cross fading tapes. Although it is commonplace now, this was revolutionary for the time. With Jack making audio recording more accessible, the opportunity to manipulate was available. An early example of this is the laugh track, created by Mullin for good, could even now be used to sway opinions on TV. This is prevalent in our world today because with the rise of artificial intelligence, the opportunity to manipulate sound and image is becoming more popular as well. Fake news, deep fake scams, and misinformation are being sent to the public and may change the perceptions of some people who can't tell if it is real or not. This choice of real or fake is always being asked in society, but Jack's inventions certainly made it more frequent.

With the evolution of greater artificial tools, such as ChatGPT, the wormhole of manipulation is spreading through society. Although it may seem hard to believe, the initial unpredictabilty of sound came from Jack's genius innovations.
