Influence

The 19th Amendment influenced people to celebrate the result of all of the women’s work in the past (“19th Amendment”). The 19th Amendment influenced other minorities to fight for women’s suffrage and opened a door for women in politics (“19th Amendment to the…”).  “Decades of struggle to include African Americans and other minority women in the promise of voting rights remained” (“19th Amendment to the…”). Achieving the goal of gaining the right to vote for other minorities took decades after the 19th Amendment was ratified in the United States (“19th Amendment to the…”). Women changed politics completely throughout the years because now women have the right to vote with men and women are now treated equally. Women fought long and hard; they organized, petitioned, and picketed for the freedom to vote (“19th Amendment to the…”). Though the 19th Amendment was ratified in the U.S., many women were still unable to vote into the 20th century because discriminatory voting laws (“19th Amendment to the…”). Many people now celebrate the strong women who fought for women’s suffrage such as Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Lucretia Mott, Ida B. Wells, and Alice Paul (“19th Amendment”).
