Due to extensive communication between the Americans and indigenous people, they began to adopt parts of each other’s languages. Some English words used today derived from the Native American language include:
Squash - the definition referring to an act of crushing something that was already in the English language. However, the definition regarding zucchinis, pumpkins, and more were derived from the Narragansett language and called "isquoutersquash", later shortened to squash.

Connecticut - many geographical terms for states, cities, and such come from indigenious origin. Connecticut comes from a word in Algonquian meaning “land on the long tidal river"
