Chicago teachers went on strike during the Great Depression as municipal funding dried up and wages were severely cut. As one of the first teachers’ strikes in America, its success became a model for teachers' communication across the U.S. In the process, the Chicago Teachers Union was formed, inspiring decades of teachers’ strikes to come.
