Marsha P. Johnson was a drag queen, transgender woman and a gay activist. She was quickly favored by the LGBTQ+ community for her service to the homeless, assistance to conserved homosexuals, and helping trans youths. As a model, she was able to co-found the organization STAR when it was created after the Stonewall event. She was offered co-founder by her friend, Sylvia Rivera, whom she frequently hung out with drinking cocktails at Stonewall Inn. As an activist, she was involved in the Stonewall Riots as many deemed her as the initiator of the uprising.
