The Camp David Accords, taking place in 1978 in Camp David, Maryland, played a key role in Middle Eastern politics. Following conflict between Arabs and Israelis, US President Jimmy Carter, Egyptian President Anwar Sadat, and Israeli Prime Minister Menachem Begin stepped forward and began peace negotiations. After days of debate and discussions, the sides came to a conclusion, and the Camp David Accords became the first signed agreements between Arabs and Israelis. This bold act of diplomacy acted as a basis for different accords and treaties to come, such as the Oslo Accords.
