Annie Oakley: The Woman Who Aimed at a Different Angle

Early Life

Annie Oakley (Pheobe Ann Moses) was not how you think she would start. She was born poor and had to make up ways to help her family (6 brothers/sisters, mother). Her mother, Susan Wise, had to work several jobs, which was hard since her husband (Jacob Moses) died. This loss made it harder to have money to buy necessities such as food, so Annie made traps for small rodents like squirrels and birds, also using her father's gun for food, which Susan reminded Annie not to use. That was one of the ways she created her frontier since she adapted to situations by thinking of a way to do something.

"I guess the love of the gun must have been born in me..."
