Jackie Robinson soon retired from playing pro ball with a .311 career batting average, the 1949 National League Most Valuable Player Award, and six World Series appearances. In 1997, Robinsons number (42) was retired and this made him the only player to have his number retired across Major League Baseball.
Jackie also became a succesful busnissman and supporter of political causes. In addition to this, he was elected into the baseball Hall of Fame in 1962. Not soon after, his son died in a car crash, and his younger kid was arrested for possetion of heroin. This encouraged Robinson to later join to get rid of drug use.
