Free Elections 

The first free and fair election in the GDR´s history was held on March 18, 1990. Amongst eligible voters, 96% of those did, showing how they wanted a change in their government. As a result of the election, the first democratically elected prime minister is Lothar De Maizière. Parliament was filled with members mostly who called for German Reunification. Through these election results, it communicated how the citizens of East Germany felt about reunification between East and West Germany. ​​​​​​​
