  THE LAUNCH INTO THE RENISSANCE

The Harlem Renaissance was a very cultural movement but many events helped contextualize this impactful movement, one being the Great Migration. The Great Migration was a key factor to what stoked up the Harlem Renaissance, it was when millions of African Americans moved from the South to the Western, Midwest, and Northern states in the early 1900s. This encouraged many African Americans to search of better jobs and overall better opportunities. Another event that fueled the Harlem Renaissance was after the aftereffects of World War I.

After WW1 great black musicians emerged and attracted the attention of white Americans who were interested due to the popularity of jazz music. People who were key figures of the Harlem Renaissance include authors such as Langston Hughes, Claude McKay, Zora Neale Hurston, Bessie Smith, and Louis Armstrong. Artists like Aaron Douglas and Augusta Savage. Musicians such as Duke Ellington, Bessie Smith, and Louis Armstrong. Along with World War I the book "The Souls of Black Folks" written by W.E.B Du Bois’s also influenced the core of the Harlem Renaissnace.
