England was experiencing all-time highs in unemployment rates in the 1970s. Many people were angry and out of work. Almost everyone was on edge because of this and were waiting to speak out. A lot of people felt that the government was not doing anything to help them. ​​​​​​​

People started striking (mainly miners) and when that happened the source of power was suddenly gone. Edward Heath, the Prime Minister at the time, had to take action due to the lack of coal and started the three day week as a way to conserve energy. No matter what happened people hated the outcome.  ​​​​​​​
