The Battle of Yorktown helped impact the Treaty of Paris. On October 17th, 1781, at Yorktown, after being cornered, General Cornwallis sent a handkerchief tied to a pole with an officer to surrender, signifying an end to the battle and Revolutionary War (Battle of Yorktown Begins). Almost instantly after the surrender, General Cornwallis sent a letter asking for a meeting to come to good terms, peace, and to establish the terms of the surrender (Washington). After the British had lost and asked for peace with America, the Treaty of Paris was introduced and made over a year later on November 30th, 1782, and was signed and put into effect about a year later on September 3rd, 1783 (Battle of Yorktown Begins). The Treaty of Paris was a document that put an official end to the Revolutionary War after the Battle of Yorktown, which helped America secure independence and peace from Britain but also changed the British government (Battle of Yorktown begins).
