In this picture Kathrine Switzer is the only woman at the race and the man without the number behind is trying to remove her from the race because he is the coordinator of the race and believes women should not compete in sports. ("Kathrine Switzer iconic moments")
Title IX is an important piece of legislation that affected many young women's lives and changed them for the better. An example of how schools were instructed to change their curriculum was that girls were not required to take home economics (“Title IX Fact Sheet”). Title IX was a major play in physical education for women, foreign scholarships, and financial assistance (Cannon). This is important because it opens up many more job opportunities such as being a scientist or a doctor and not just the limited ones of being a teacher or a nurse (Winslow). In regards to athletics, Title IX gave an equal opportunity to achieve greatness by giving equal financial assistance and equal facilities to both women and men (Title IX Fact Sheet”). Many of the women lawyers, doctors, police women, and architects would not be with their education and would not be in their job positions without Title IX.
