Wars are a driving force for technological advancements; they create a demand for innovation. War is a race and relying on humans to solve math problems quickly does not always work. Grace Hopper’s work with compilers made it easier for computer operators to enter data to calculate and solve complex math problems, like calculating the trajectory of missiles, quicker and more efficiently.
