Born in 1881, Alexander Fleming was a Scottish scientist that worked at St. Mary's Hospital. He had a history of keeping a messy lab which resulted in him discovering penicillin. Fleming was researching alternate forms of treatment for infectious diseases as he knew chemical antiseptics were dangerous. In August 1928, he went on vacation and found mold growing in a petri dish when he returned.
