The impact of Alcatraz was housing vicious and law-defining prisoners to let it be known to every person, prisoner or not, that escaping was not an option but a suicidal mission (“The San Bernardino…”). Alcatraz was nearly impossible to escape due to the amount of security in the prison. Another reason that made escaping extremely difficult was the minimum privileges the prisoners had. Some of these privileges the prisoners had were medical care, shelter, food, and clothing; privileges such as work and visitations had to be earned through good behavior (“BOP:Alcatraz”).
