The influence of Alcatraz left was increasing the security of other prisons across the United States. Now in the United States there are more than three-hundred high security prisons in the U.S.The prison shut down in 1963 after 29 years of occupation due to high cost. After the prison shut down, similar techniques were used in other prisons all around the United States. Prisons that use similar techniques were The U.S  penitentiary in Marion, Illinois .(''BOP:Alcatraz”). The influence on Alcatraz led to it being opened to the public in 1972 after its closing in 1963 due to high cost. After it opened to the public Alcatraz became a very popular tourist attraction getting over one million visits a year(“Alcatraz”).
