The way Bentley broke the frontier was, it was the first luxury and performance car in the world. On September 8, 1888, Walter O. Bentley was born (“ Bentley was the Father of British Sports Cars”). In 1919, Walter O. Bentley founded the car company Bentley (“ Bentley was the Father of British Sports Cars”). Walter O. Bentley did not enjoy cars. “Bentley initially did not like cars” (“Bentley Was the Father of British Sports Cars”).  “But while W.O. was a great leader, he was not a businessman” (“Bentley Was the Father of British Sports Cars.”). In 1930, Bentley came out with a luxury and performance car that was quiet and smooth. “ Never in my life have I known a vehicle in which such a prodigious performance was linked to such smooth, unobtrusive quietness” (“The Bentley Story”). In 1939, W.O Bentley left Bentley (“Bentley Was the Father of British Sports Cars”). In the 1950s Bentley made its first grand tours (“Bentley History”). In 1952 Bentley came out with the Bentley R-Type Continental with a top speed of 120 mph; it was the fastest luxury and performance car in the world (“Bentley History.”). “This made it the fastest four-seater car in the world and very quickly earned a reputation as the ultimate in high-speed luxury” (“Bentley History”).
