Catherine Leroy was born on August 27, 1944
in Paris, France. Leroy attended catholic
school and earned her parachute license
by the time she was eighteen years old.
At twenty-one (1966) she booked a one
way flight to Laos with two-hundred
dollars to ‘give war a human face’ through
the lenses of her Leica M2 camera. She had little
to no previous photography experience, but was
moved by other photographs of war.
