In 1946, The Brooklyn Dodgers manager Branch Rickey wanted to have the first ever African American on his team.  He knew that he would make more money having him on his team because there were many black Americans in Brooklyn New York. Still, he needed someone who could stay in without freaking out with the things that other teams and fans were telling him in the games. And that's when a 26-year-old named Jackie stood out in the Negro leagues and the Dodgers scout team thought he was the perfect man for the job. He first joined the Royals in spring training of 1946. During spring training in 1946, Jackie Robinson turned out to be a good and determined person who would not rage when whites yelled at him. And that's when on April 15, 1947, Jackie Robinson officially joined the Brooklyn Dodgers.
