Flight 232 truly broke barriers in the Sioux City community and beyond through the impact of the emergency plan and the community itself. The emergency plan saved over a hundred people's lives that day. It has also improved emergency plans in many other cities and countries across the world. With the help of the community, many lives were saved from an event that almost guaranteed all casualties. The Sioux City communities helped break barriers within the community that day through the aid they provided like food, housing, and blood for the survivors.

“The 80s were tough for Sioux City, Iowa. People weren’t necessarily feeling good about the city. After this happened, the response that they made gave us a lot of positive publicity and I personally thought that the city turned around as far as being proud of ourselves and what we had done.”
