Influence

Religious bulletin about the Notre Dame football team.
(O'Hara)
The riot still influences the University of Notre Dame because today most Notre Dame students live on campus and not in the city of South Bend, thanks to dormitories that Matthew Walsh had built to keep his students away from bad influences in the city of South Bend after the riot (Tucker 212). In addition, because of the circumstances of when the Notre Dame football team rose to power, the team stands for all Catholics and is seen as Notre Dame's stand against anti-Catholicism (Tucker 189). Even today, a century later, the riot is still being written about, from Todd Tucker's book to the Indiana Historical Society's exhibit on the riot.
