(Correspondence to Matthew Walsh, the president of Notre Dame...)

(Personal letter to Matthew Walsh, the president of Notre Dame, warning of hot lead)

The May 17-19, 1924 Notre Dame riots against the Ku Klux Klan were revolutions to ensure that the Klan would not take control of South Bend ("Klan Display..." 1). Since this happened, the Klan's activity in the South Bend area became limited (Nevel 89). Although negative reactions followed it, the riot proved that anti-Klan forces existed at a time when many people were pro-Klan.
