"1960 Anti-Apartheid Protest" ("History of the anti...")

Desmond Tutu was a revolutionary figure in helping to protest against apartheid in South Africa; one of the many ways that Tutu did this is by becoming the first black man to become the general secretary of the South African Council of Churches (Biography.com Editors). This was huge as it helped to further prove that the apartheid would not slow down African peoples' role in the religous Church (Biography.com Editors). Tutu later would continue to prove this point as in 1986, Tutu became the first black person to hold the title as Archbishop of Cape Town (Biography.com Editors).

The reaction to Desmond Tutu in South Africa was great as it helped to amplify and strengthen the anti-apartheid movement throughout South Africa with more and more people fighting to end apartheid (Biography.com Editors)  When Desmond Tutu won the Nobel Peace Prize the reaction to it was great as it helped to show the world how apartheid was affecting individuals and their families simply because of the color of their skin (Biography.com Editors).

Desmond Tutu helped to cause widespread reform in South Africa as he helped to lead the charge in the anti-apartheid movement across South Africa and South African churches (Woo). Desmond Tutu also helped to cause reform in the South African government as he helped to stop the minority white government from deciding where people lived, which schools they went to, and where they went to school (Woo).
