Influence
(“Bell’s voice over the first telephone” 2013.)
The invention of the telephone influenced many advancements in communication and in the creation of several different communication companies. Prior to the invention of the telephone, people ethier had to write letters or talk in person to others, and that made it much more difficult to communicate to other parts of the world. The old telephone was connected by one wire and sent messages through a circuit, making it sometimes difficult to understand everything that was being said (Bell). “In 1915, Bell made the first transcontinental phone call to Watson from New York City to San Francisco” (History.com editors). In 1973, Dr. Martin Cooper shared his idea of the first cellular phone to some of his business members. There used to be only one telephone company for all telephones, now there are many different options of phone companies from which to choose. Cell phones and smartphones now have applications to download, allowing communication through social media and text messages as well as by the cellular network. (Forgeard). There used to be telephone booths on the sidewalks of streets, now they have taken almost all of those out because it’s normal for everyone to have a cell phone or a smartphone. Bell's accomplishment was a significant help to create a path towards increasing communication.
