"A member of the Japanese delagation comes aboard the USS Missouri"
(Library of Congress)
βββββββThe Manhattan Project was revolutionary because it was constructed to end World War Two, it served its purpose but also completely changed warfare forever. Since America was at war, the Advisory Committee on Uranium (ACU) came to a conclusion that a nuclear bomb could be designed, constructed, and used to end the war ("Destroyer of Worlds..."). There were many different types of reactions: the Japanese people were angry, while most Americans were overjoyed that the bomb worked and evastated the Japanese, but some people saw it as morally unjust and horrifying. The dropping of the bombs led to the end of the Second World War and the beginning of the Cold War. The reforms of the Manhattan Project were extremely important because they dictate what can and can't be done. The Atomic Energy Act of 1946 was passed giving the American government complete control of nuclear materials ("Atomic Energy Act of 1946). It also led to reforms on atomic warfare, putting limits on its use.
