One right that deaf people gained was being able to defend themselves in court for the first time in history (“Charles”). This had a reaction from people all over Europe and people finally started to realize what deaf people were capable of. The attention for deaf people only grew after many deaf people around the world came to Abbe De L'Epee’s new public school for deaf and at the time and they were given a new way to learn (De L'Epee). The school made it clear to everyone in Europe that the deaf are the same non-deaf people and they should be treated the same as them (Clerc 6).

When the National Institut de Jeunes Sourds de Paris opened, within its first five years it had an impact on many people in Europe. Because of the school's opening, deaf people were able to learn a more central sign language which gained them more attention and rights (“Charles”). When the school was teaching its students they created a sign language that their students could use to help them with their everyday life. That sign language helped deaf people all over Europe start to gain more rights(“Charles”)
