Tuskegee in Indiana

Importance

(National Archives...)

The Tuskegee Airmen were important contributors in the success of the desegregation of the armed branches of the United States, and of the Civil Rights movement. They were important in giving equality and fairness to the rights of black men and women. For example, The Tuskegee Airmen were an important factor in readying the country for the intergration of the military, which started with President Harry Truman issuing Executive Order 9981 on July 26, 1948. This order established the success of the victory over World War II. The Airmen stood up for the common good and are still honored to this day even though the program ended on April 26, 1945 ("Tuskgee Airmen...").
