Tuskegee in Indiana

Influence

The Tuskegee Airmen influenced the desegregation of all branches of the United States and in society. They accomplished this through becoming the first black aviation program and by becoming dominant on the war front. These men were given multiple awards over the years for their military success and it led to other opportunities in their work. For example, the prior Tuskegee Airmen were given awards such as more than 150 distinguished Flying Crosses ("Tuskegee Airmen...").  Also, this group on March 29, 2007 the remaining Tuskegee Airmen, were awarded more than 300 Congressional Gold Metals given by George W. Bush (Schneider). After the war, there were other opportunities that opened for these men. This includes black men being able to return home to better jobs. Overwhelmingly,  their successes spread beyond the battlefield. For example, Alexander Jefferson, after exiting service, began to teach (Jefferson).
