Reaction

In the late 1840's, Tubman made her escape with fear of being sold further into slavery ("Harriet Tubman"). After escaping Tubman found work as a maid ("Harriet Tubman"). Tubman then joined the Underground Railroad as a reaction when the Fugitive Slave Act was passed ("Harriet Tubman"). This piece of legislature made it illegal to aid escaping slaves to freedom("Harriet Tubman").

Reform

After the Fugitive Slave Act was passed Tubman made her reform. She first set out to help her family escape towards freedom ("Harriet Tubman"). In Tubman's working efforts from 1850 to the Civil War she made 13 dangerous trips into slavery and back to help escaping slaves and led 70 slaves to freedom ("Harriet Tubman"). As well as personally giving instructions to 60 other slaves ("Harriet Tubman"). Tubman was skilled enough to do this all without losing a single passenger (Dawson).
