Background

                                                                                                       (Six-year-old Ruby Bridges)

    Ruby Nell Bridges was born on September 8,1954 in Tylertown, Mississippi (Through My Eyes). She was the oldest of five children (Biography). Ruby’s family struggled with money when she was younger because her family lived with her father’s parents who were sharecroppers (Through My Eyes). When she was two her family moved to New Orleans because of better work opportunities (Biography). She loved to go and visit her grandparents farm (Through My Eyes). Ruby was not the only one on the farm when she went because her mom came from such a big family.(Through My Eyes). In 1958, Ruby and her family moved to the old seaport city of New Orleans (Through My Eyes). On the block where she lived everyone was black but on the block next to her everyone was white (Through My Eyes).ruby bridges and five other took a test that would determine if she was ready to change schools ad go to an all white school (Through My Eyes).On November 14, 1960 Ruby changed the world by becoming the first african american to attend an all white school.
