Ruby Bridges was the first African-American girl to attend a non-segregated school in 1960. She quickly impacted society and she helped get better education to children no matter the color of their skin. Bridges influenced many other little girls and teachers to teach every child no matter their race. She also established the Ruby Bridges Foundation in 1999 (Biography). She was also made an honorary deputy marshal in 2000 (Biography). Bridges' importance is that she helped desegregate schools around the U.S.and by the time she went to high school more schools were desegregated (Biography). She was a frontier in making education equal for all races.
I chose my topic because I wanted to learn about the Civil Rights Movement. The first person who came to mind was Ruby Bridges. So after thinking of what I want to learn about and who I want to learn about, I researched more about Bridges and if she would be a good person to go along with the year's topic. She was a good pick and so I decided to choose her.
When I was conducting my research I first found primary sources. I found a book written by her called Through My Eyes and another one called This is Your Time. I knew Ruby had done some interviews so I looked for one that provided good primary information. I also looked for books written by Bridges. From there I started looking for secondary sources and I found a website called womenshistory.org that talked about Ruby's bridge path to becoming who she is now.I also found man pictures f bridges like the one where the marshals are escorting bridges to and from school.i also found a video of ruby bridges talking with the president about her painting.i also found a 360 video talking about what ruby went through when she went to school. By that time I had found all of my sources and I started on my paper.
When I was choosing my category I was given the choice of a documentary or a website. I chose a website and I created it using the NHD webcentral site. When I am making my website I do it piece by piece. I usually start by putting down the essentials like the background and the navigation up at the top then I go back and add all of the information then I'm done.
