The University of Notre Dame immediately impacted its people by providing a Catholic education for many different individuals and groups of people at the university (“About”). By the time that Notre Dame was built and completed, the college was very important to the community because it was one of the only Catholic Universities in the area (Wack). The next closest Catholic University was St. Gabriel in Vincennes, almost two hundred miles away (Wack). St. Gabriel’s closed in 1842 (Wack). Because of the lack of Catholic colleges, Notre Dame soon had many Catholic immigrants attending the University because there were no other Catholic schools (Wack). Notre Dame is not only valuable when it comes to including a variety of people in their school, but they also have extremely satisfactory Catholic Theology programs within the University (“About”). Notre Dame is even known for having some of the best Theology programs worldwide (“About”).
