The creation of The University of Notre Dame is a Catholic university that was a frontier in providing a Catholic education for students (Wack). In 1842, a Holy Cross priest named Father Edward Sorin and a small number of other Holy Cross priests were given land, and with that land Sorin was inspired to create a Catholic University (“History”). Notre Dame made an impact by providing a Catholic education for many different types of people (Wack). Notre Dame’s Theology program is also known as one of the best in the world (“About”). It was also known for helping non-Catholics convert to the faith (Wack). Notre Dame influenced not just their students but also the city of South Bend and surrounding areas (Sorin 29). This is important because at the time there were no other Catholic colleges near Notre Dame (Sorin 29). The importance of Notre Dame is that there are people achieving amazing heights and making the society a better place (“About”).
I chose my topic for many reasons, one of the reasons being that many of my family members including my father, either worked or went to school at the University of Notre Dame. I also live fairly close to the university and have always loved walking around campus. Another reason is that I know Notre Dame is a Catholic school that has made an impact on many people's lives but is also known for its great education. Because of this I would like to eventually apply to go to college at Notre Dame. And finally the last reason that I chose this topic is because Notre Dame has an incredible history. One historical factor that contributed to the development of the University of Notre dame is that it was founded by Catholic priests from the Congregation of Holy Cross making it a Catholic university
My research was conducted mainly by using the internet and books from the University of Notre Dame’s library. When I used website articles from the internet the ones that I mainly used were from Notre Dame's own websites. The information that I found in the websites were more about what the University of Notre Dame is and its values. But on the other hand some of the books that I found at Notre Dame's library were primary sources that were more about the history of Notre Dame.
The category that I chose was the individual website. I chose to do this because I knew that I didn’t want to make a documentary because I don't like to make videos or movies. So I figured that the website would be the best option because I like graphic design and thought that it would be a fun challenge. The colors used in my website were mainly black, white and gray with a colorful background because I didn't want too much color. Lastly I added many pictures to my website to help people understand what the University of Notre Dame looks like.
