1840: The University of Notre Dame was founded by Rev. Edward Sorin and seven additional Holy Cross priests.
1843: Father Sorin and other priests began to clear the land to prepare it for the new university.
1849: The first church was established on Notre Dame's campus.
1866: By this time Notre Dame had survived the civil war and the first observatory was built.
1879: A huge fire took place burning down the main building and the golden dome.
1882: A student at the University of Notre Dame created the first wind tunnel in the United states.
1972: On this Notre Dame went Coed.
Today the university of Notre dame is still growing and continues to provide a Catholic education for its students.
